AMA foundation in partnership with Alyahay foundation is embarking on our pilot empowerment program in Augie LGA of Kebbi State, North West Nigeria. This program is aimed at providing various levels of skills to women in this rural community.Generally, women in rural communities receive lessformal education and are most likely to be illiterate. When empowered by way of new skill acquisition, liveschange especially of their children from education to meeting their nutritional needs thus encouraging independence eventually breaking the cycle of poverty that has ravaged them, their mothers and grandmothers.
Priority will be given to women with fewer opportunities for whom it is less evident to initiate or start a business. This program will not only improve the well being of the women involved directly with the program, but it will improve and uplift the community as we intend to focus on initiatives that are sustainable and economically viable in the region.
Healthcare, education and empowerment are the key focus areas of the foundation, we believe they are all interconnected and are cardinal drivers for sustainable development. As always touching and improving lives remains our key goal, these three areas provides us with a holistic approach and a long lasting impact.
The project is due to commence early July 2013 with renovation of the existing center in Augie, we will keep you updated with pictures and write-ups of our progress.
Ultimately, our goal is to achieve a sustainable state of individual empowerment where AMA & ALYAHAY assistance is no longer needed.
